Park District Plans Referendum

Park District plans referendum in November to take action on community priorities

Dear Bolingbrook Youth Baseball Families,

On November 6, you will be asked to vote on a bond issue for capital improvements to Bolingbrook Park District parks and facilities.

Important to note… With either a “yes” vote or a “no” vote, the Bolingbrook Park District portion of residents’ tax bill will decrease for the average home. This is possible due to the elimination of $2 million bond and interest debt that rolls off at the same time this bond would begin.

During the final research phase conducted last summer by the Bolingbrook Park District, several resident input groups identified the following projects as their top priorities for capital improvement:

  • Replacing 21 playgrounds village-wide and update various facility equipment, exteriors, furniture and fixtures, technology and areas that require paving. Included in this is roofing for the concession stand and additional parking on the south side of Indian Boundary Park, as well as other smaller facility and park improvements throughout the District.
  • Completion of the Lily Cache Greenway pathway, which would connect existing trails behind the LilyCache Sports Complex to the existing pathway on the east side of Weber Road. This would further connect the regional pathway plan developed in 1989.
  • Partial renovation of the Bolingbrook Recreation and Aquatic Complex (BRAC), which would include remodeling the entrance and hallway; creating two program room spaces; renovating the fitness and aquatics locker rooms at BRAC; adding four family changing rooms; and a bridge, pavilion and shade structures to the Lazy River at Pelican Harbor Outdoor Aquatic Park.

To accomplish these upgrades, the Park District board has passed a resolution to ask Park District voters to decide on a referendum for $14 million in bonds over a 20-year period. The referendum will be on the ballot for the November 6 election.
